The research of the Porous Media at the University of Bergen group deals with basic challenges associated with solving the equations that describe flow, transport and mechanical deformation in porous media. This includes the development of rigorous mathematical foundations for the empirical physical laws of fluid motion in porous media, numerical methods for solving the partial differential equations that arise, and characterization of reservoir properties via inverse modelling based on the observed production history of a reservoir.

Applications of current research projects include subsurface energy storage, geothermal energy, flow in and immaging of biological tissue and enhanced oil recovery.
